Stocks only: options, bonds and anything without a ticker are left out. A position counts if it is new since the prior quarter or the fund bought more shares, weighted by the dollar value added, from the close on the day the 13F was filed. Funds need at least 3 priced adds to be ranked. These are stock-price moves, not the funds' own profits, and dividends are ignored.

Questions

Which fund manager has the best stock picks?

As of October 11, 2026, the best-performing fund manager we track over the last 12 months is Paul Singer: stocks they added in their 13F filings are up 15.0% since each filing, against 9.2% for the S&P 500 over the same dates. 19 funds are ranked.

How is the return calculated?

A 13F shows what a fund held at the end of a quarter, not when it traded. We count a position if it is new since the quarter before or the fund bought more shares, weighted by the dollar value of what it added. Each one counts from the closing price on the day the filing was made public to the latest close, and the S&P 500 is measured over the same dates with the same weights. Options, bonds and anything without a ticker are left out, and dividends are ignored.

Why measure from the filing date?

Funds file 13Fs up to 45 days after a quarter ends, so the public can't act on a position until the filing lands. Counting from that day shows what copying the fund would have returned, delay included.

Where does the data come from?

13F-HR reports filed with the SEC. We check EDGAR every day.
