What is VIX?

The Cboe Volatility Index (VIX) estimates expected 30-day volatility in the S&P 500 from options prices. Rising VIX usually means demand for protection; falling VIX often accompanies calmer markets.

How Market Alerts uses it

Our bands frame VIX as a risk dial: low readings favor reducing risk, mid readings favor holding, and spikes into the 25–30+ zone can be windows to accumulate.

How to read the bands

Reduce Risk (<15)
Volatility is cheap and markets feel calm — a common zone to tighten risk rather than chase.
Hold (15–25)
Normal-ish volatility. Stay with your process; no need for urgent regime shifts.
Accumulate (25–30)
Fear is elevated. Often where disciplined buyers start adding on weakness.
Strong Accumulate (≥30)
Stress is high. Historically associated with sharper opportunities — and larger swings.
